Floor Care Tips

Hardwood floors
Dirt, grit, and sand are hardwood floors worst enemies.  They act like sandpaper, causing scratches, dents and dulling.  Be sure you place good mats at entryways, and also start the no shoe rule.  Be sure to sweep or dust mop regularly.
Standing water can warp floors and damage finish.  Wipe up any spills right away.
Avoid oil soaps for cleaning.  They can build up and create problems.  Use, natural ph cleaners made specifically for wood floors.  Read the manufacturers maintenance instructions before using any cleaning products on your floor.
Put felt contacts under the legs of furniture to prevent scratching.  Do not slide furniture.
Vacuum with a brush attachment.  Do not use beater bars.
Direct sun can discolor hardwood.

Grout Stains
This is a very common problem and a difficult one.  To clean dirty grout use water with a little dish soap in and a toothbrush and scrub out the dirt.  Once the dirt is out, prevention is the best way to keep it clean.  If something gets spilled, wipe it up immediately.  Another way to keep gout looking good is to seal it.  Apply a grout sealer, wait a couple of days and apply a second coat.  Wait a couple of more days and spray a little water on the grout.  If the water stay on the grout, it is sealed.  If the water soaks in, apply a third coat.
